Microsoft offers beta of Adobe rival
[Technology News] I’m a big fan of Adobe Photoshop and use it often however I can’t say the same for Illustrator but a new program that can potentially offer pixel based and vector graphics editing is promising but I personally think that its too little too late with Photoshop releasing CS2 recently and having already established their foot in the market. It will be hard for MS Acrylic to fight into the market specially after the Adobe and Macromedia merger which will surely bring in some new and fresh ideas for future projects.

[Bloggers Blog * Blogging News and Trends *] Another nasty possibility, said Stiennon, is that a vulnerability will be found in one of the big blogging services. "If a spyware writer finds a way to inject code into a blogging site -- which could take the form of a SOAP object -- most likely through a future vulnerability in Internet Explorer 7, then everyone who subscribes to that service's blog RSS feeds is gonna get infected." Such an attack could be massive, and because of the automated nature of RSS, extremely fast-acting.

[CreativeGuy - Graphic Design Software Tips, Tricks and Commentary] What adding Noise does to your drop shadow is it breaks up the drop shadow color into random dots, rather than a smooth gradient of color. Whack your boss
[The Community At Large] Most of these things, it’s a hilariously badly animated tongue in cheek bit of fun. But this is so well done and so incredibly violent it seems a bit dangerous.

Dalek V-2 Work In Progress
[A Blog Too Far] I’m working on a new Dalek model with the help of pictures around the web and in particular notes for building Daleks. Incidentally if anybody wants to contribute to my Dalek building fund, you can send me money through paypal using tbarnard [at] burntmail [dot] com. I’ve completed the new head section, which is improved from the first version, most notably the eye stalk is much more detailed, and there are lights on it.

Understanding ProPhoto RGB - UPDATE
[PhotoshopNews: Photoshop News and Information] On May 27th, PSN reported that Michael Reichmann, publisher of the Luminous Landscape website, had written an article titled Understanding ProPhoto RGB A Preferred Working Space for Digital Photographers. The article was useful (read the original article on) but spawned a lengthy discussion of the relative merits and risks of using ProPhoto RGB in the Luminous Landscape Forums. The discussion centered around the advisability of using ProPhoto RGB because its color gamut, the amount of colors contained, is so big.

Adobe Creative Suite 2.0 Premium
[Learning Community Group's Research Network :: Main Page] The main advantage of this suite, however, is its ability to share images produced in one app with another app. Version Cue 2.0, a file management app, maintains version control, while Adobe Bridge, a new app, allows designers to synchronize color settings throughout the suite and preview images from within any Creative Suite program, regardless of which app you used to create them.

Open Source at Adobe
[Pete Freitag's Homepage] The Adobe chap had interesting things to say about their heavily constrained use of open source: they basically have a sandbox where open source is allowed but at some point between the sandbox and the Adobe core products, open source becomes verboten. Not even open source compilers, even when they don't link to open source libraries.

Shouldn't Ebook Pricing Model Be Different From Print Books?
[NabaTech] Shouldn't the publishers be able to price the ebooks much lower than the print versions, considering that there are no printing costs, shipping costs, and no need to accept returns from booksellers? Or, put it another way, wouldn't it make sense to price the ebooks as low as possible just to encourage buyers to go for the ebooks? Before we think of better formats and designs for ebooks, publishers should rethink the pricing model for the current computer ebooks”to ensure that there are some real incentives for buying the ebooks.

Adobe Photoshop plug-ins for Photographers
[Digital Inspiration] But to do more than that usually means turning to Adobe Photoshop CS2, a program that dominates photo-editing software so much its name has become a verb for digitally altering images. And, much like Apple's successful iPod music player, Photoshop has spawned a small secondary industry of companies that make accessories for it. In Photoshop's case, of course, accessories take the form of software, known as plug-ins, that add features.
