[Ned Batchelder: Blog] ShotCode is yet another scannable URL technology. It's kind of like TinyURL crossed with barcodes, aimed at people with cell phone cameras. It seems like a great idea: the site has an animation of a guy looking at a concert poster, andhe buys tickets just by aiming his cell camera at the ShotCode on the poster.Unfortunately, I don't think it will fly, mainly because it requires the cell phone user todownload ShotCode software into their phone. The whole idea of the thing is to enable peopleto do impulse Internet purchases with their phone.

Typeface Licensing, For Those Who Think Music Licensing is Easy.
[MNteractive] Khoi Vinh over at Subtraction.com (Try Before You Buy Fonts. ) reminded me that despite half a decade passing, we’re still using the same typefaces online and designers haven’t solved the problem of how to promote new typefaces easily. With the days of grunging-up a typeface and selling it for $185 long gone, I fear we’ve lost our opportunity for typographic innovation on the web (I say this admiring subtraction.com.)

QX: More Quark Xpress 7 reading
[CreativeGuy - Graphic Design Software Tips, Tricks and Commentary] From all I’ve read, Quark XPress 7 promises to be the first version of XPress that doesn’t lose marketshare to Adobe InDesign since Adobe released it years ago. It also sounds like it’ll be quite an upgrade, unlike every version of Quark since version 3 - which were all buggy and feature poor (at least, features that print designers actually want).
