[dreamhost Discussion Board] This is to ensure the quality of the fonts, both to protect Bitstream and Gnome. We want to ensure that if an application has opened a font specifically of these names, it gets what it expects (though of course, using fontconfig, substitutions could still could have occurred during font opening).

I miss Macromedia

[PseudoSemantics] I had a job where I got to use the Macromedia MX suit and I absolutely loved it. Flash has to be indisputably one of the coolest things to happen to the internet. Thank you Youtube, Homestar, telecrapper2000, and a myriad of crappy flashy band websites etc. Dreamweaver was a phenomenal HTML editor, the design end would write clean well formatted code (as opposed to other Frontpage end editors) and had a lot of cool integration features. I only did a little maintenance with ColdFusion, but it was easy to learn, and kind of fun to work with. Hooray Macromedia.

Camera Raw, Bridge, or Lightroom?

[Photoshop Insider] At this point, we definitely still need Photoshop to do serious retouching, anything with layers, selections, professional looking type, filters, and well…I could go on and on, but I could see a day where we just use Lightroom (For example, Lightroom Public Beta 2.0 added features that require us to go over to Photoshop less than we needed to in 1.4), but in the end, that decision will be made by Adobe, as they decide how Lightroom evolves.

Switching between Image Ready and Photoshop CS2 - frame problem

[Helping icon makers one tutorial at a time.] When I work on an animation in Image Ready everything's fine until I switch to PS to sharpen the individual layers. After working on the picture I select the bottom layer and switch back to Image Ready but the frames aren't in a .

[Tech--for Everyone] Well, as it stands, I find that there are some basic image editing features which are missing (it is possible I just couldn’t find the menu..) such as image resizing and dots-per-inch adjustment. You can crop, but not shrink..

Quark’s Bar (Deep Space Nine - Star Trek Deep Space Nine)

[Barblog] Quark’s Bar is run my the eccentric Ferengi known as Quark, he maintains a friendly but strict environment in this fictional bar set many thousands of years in the future on board a space-station on the outskirts of a remote part of the galaxy beside a rather infamous wormhole. 10 things a web designer can’t do without

[Help Developer - CSS, Dreamweaver, Gimp, HTML, JavaScript, PHP, VB.NET, Visual Studio, Wordpress Tutorials] Personally I favour Gimp because its fast, reliable, updated regularly, free and easy to use and doesn’t compromise on features when it comes to web design. The worthy alternative to this is the slow, expensive Photoshop (oh did I say worthy, I meant unworthy, yeah I don’t like it, although a lot of other designers do.)

Photoshop CS4 64-bit in Windows, only 32-bit in OS X

[The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)] And on one of the Adobe blogs (Living Photoshop maybe?) they said something to the effect of "We'll move to 64-bit eventually, but it'll break things and 64-bit mainly just gives the app access to more memory. No biggy."

Photoshop, Lightroom, and Adobe's 64-bit roadmap

[John Nack on Adobe] The original roadmap was to mandate use of Objective-C for OS X way back when OS X was still called Rhapsody, but developers such as Adobe, whose apps were all chained to the old APIs, balked at the idea of a lot of hard work just to support what they perceived at the time as a doomed platform, so Apple developed carbon as a stopgap measure. News: InDesign Drops Support for Print Publishing

[InDesignSecrets] release of InDesign (version 5.0.3.1.r42), Adobe is removing all support for printing. The File > Print command will be replaced with File > Export to AIR and the various print-based PDF Presets will be removed, in favor of three new presets, including one for PDF/X-6 (which, as we’ve previously reported, supports only transparent objects on layers, converting opaque objects and images with transparency effects when necessary).
