Acrylic - Photoshop from Microsoft

Franto.com Flash bloghttp://www.franto.com/blog2 [Franto.com Flash blog] I’ve played with it, and as a frequent user to PS, Fireworks, Freehand, et al, I can say with some confidence that Acrylic ( as it currently stands) is not a “Photoshop Killer”, or even close. It might step on the toes of vector apps, but unless they bundle it with Longhorn for free I don’t thing Adobe need to be too concerned.

Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.

Tech Headlines[Tech Headlines] Microsoft Launches Acrylic Beta, New Design Software: Microsoft describe “Acrylic” as "the codename for a new professional design tool that brings together the richness of pixel-based painting and the flexibility of editable vector graphics for a more fluid and flexible creative workflow. With Acrylic you can create sophisticated designs and graphic elements for your on-screen, Web, and print projects.."

[Windowslonghorn.net] WindowsLonghorn.net: Acrylic is a design tool that will feel reasonably similar to anyone familiar with Adobe Photoshop. Acrylic offers the more advanced editing features (layers, etc) not currently found in the standard imaging program bundled with Windows, Microsoft Paint.

http://amcptwo.blogspot.com [Amcptwo.blogspot.com] AMCP Computer Privacy TECH BLOG: Microsoft offers beta of Acrylic: The only bad thing is Microsoft wants a computer with high system specifications for Acrylic: an Intel Pentium 4 machine, with Windows XP Service Pack 2, 512MB of memory, 500MB of disk space and a pressure-sensitive graphics tablet supporting the WinTab interface. Currently there is no support for the beta product.

http://blog.danbartels.com [Blog.danbartels.com] DanBartels.CS : Acrylic - Microsoft's answer to Photoshop?: Microsoft has released a beta of their new High end image editing suite codenamed Acrylic  (well it is a "development technology preivew based on the Creature House Expression product").  It can open PSD files and many other formats, and allows you to combine vector and raster layers in the same image..  I still have to play with the effects to see if the tool will meet my needs (lets face it, all I do is make header clipped graphics, and fancy buttons) It has a special feature for "roll over buttons" and an export to HTML...  So I am going to have to give it a whirl...

[Blog.thetechgurus.net] The Techgurus Blog » Blog Archive » First time with the Acrylic ...: If MS is trying to target the low-end user market, mainly people who want to do simple photo editing for family pictures and such, then Acrylic is going to be too complicated for them even if its priced much cheaper than Photoshop. However, if MS is trying to create a product that is for the professional market, Acrylic doesn’t have anything positive to offer graphic designers that they don’t already have with Photoshop.

http://juliankay.com [Juliankay.com] Julian Kay's Blog: Though this tool is a needed part of Microsoft's lineup of the future, they still need decent pixel editing software (like Photoshop) and without that, people could just buy Adobe's Creative Suite and not bother with Acrylic..
