Graphic Design Blog > Adobe seeks International recognition for DNG

[News: Digital Photography Review (dpreview.com)] Converting to DNG as the first step in a workflow allows metadata about the chosen 'developing' settings and ownership to be embedded in the file, rather than having to be stored in a 'sidecar' xmp file. Finally, DNG includes an editable preview file so that an archived file represents the chosen development settings, even in applications and operating systems that are not aware of specific proprietary raw files.

[DWIITHA] Candid Camera: “Passing it over to such a body gives camera manufacturers further confidence that DNG is designed to be an industry-wide raw format, not an Adobe raw format,” he said, but added that the move doesn’t change the company’s approach or commitment of resources to the project: “Handing over a format to another body isn’t a short-term move.”

[Canon EOS 5D Group] More on Color Management: in reading over this topic, and let me make clear I am a serious hobbyist...would someone like me be better served to work in sRGB, where what I see on my monitor will be what I get from the printer? I am presently using RGB and it has been a bit hit or miss from some printers...York and Burrell are fine, but suprisingly whcc was not.

[>Re: PHOTO] Cornerfix: File size is also a slight issue for archiving; the _CF files with lossless compression are considerably larger, and Adobe Lightroom seems to lose the compression, producing 40Mb files compared to the original .
[Free Movie Related] Want to know more about digital photography?: If your camera doesn’t capture RAW images in this format, you can convert them to DNG using a program such as Photoshop or Lightroom. When you do so, you can even choose to store the original RAW image inside its DNG file so you can extract it at some future date should you need it.

[Adobe Lightroom] trouble syncing between LR, ACR, PS, & Bridge?: If I import them in, develop, and manually save metadata - the changes will not reflect if viewed in Bridge or opened in ACR or PS which is very disapointing. Now if I remove the photo from LR and reimport it - it has retained the changes and will preview correctly but still only in LR, along with the history log of what was done to the image.

[digital asset management weblog] One-click (or zero-click) image ingestion: ImageIngester and ImageIngesterPro do more than just copy images from your camera or card to your computer: They automate tedious, but important, steps in your workflow that you’d otherwise have to do manually, every time you ingest. Steps like making a backup, verifying images, renaming image files and arranging them into folders, applying metadata, and converting to DNG.

[PhotoshopNews] Adobe Lightroom Beta 3 for Windows Released: Clicking this option allows Lightroom to work in the background creating and loading previews but this option can slow down the overall Lightroom response. If you have a real fast machine you probably will want to keep this option on, but if you are working at the low end of speed, turning this option off will improve UI response time at the expense of fast building and loading of previews.
