[djx blog] djx blog » linear workflow and gamma update: It boils down to this: I've been leaving my frameBuffer gamma at 1 (the maya default) and setting my output gamma to 2.2 via an exposure node, which means I need to degamma my 8 bit fileTextures (but 32 and 16 bit floats are ok). However the other (very popular) approach is to set the frameBuffer gamma to 0.455, and the output gamma to 1, which means generally the fileTexture requires no degamma.
[An alien's viewpoint] Open Source Photo Processing Comes of Age « An alien's viewpoint: I am sure there are technical reasons for this, but I do wonder why other programs, like Cinepaint, are able to show a linear histogram for this image just fine. I mention this because I know that some people do rely on the histogram a lot and I do think that the linear type is more useful.

[John Nack on Adobe] John Nack on Adobe: CS4: Sweating the Details: Because if it is, I'll work hard to move my workflow out of Adobe products! I just made the case for Adobe here at the office and moved our video workflow from FCP to Premiere, to integrate with our current Adobe design products (Indesign, Illustrator, etc...) but after soooo many bugs in CS3, seeing a paid update (CS3.3) and having to shell $900 to get bugs fixed (and I don't even care much for the new app interface btw) is outrageous!!
[Creative Curio] Creative Curio » Customizing Illustrator for Maximum Efficiency: The experienced Photoshop user will see that there are only two options for gradients–radial and linear”unlike the five or six options you have in Photoshop. You can make all sorts of gradients with the help with Mesh Tool, but that will come in a later article, as it can be quite complicated.
[John Nack on Adobe] John Nack on Adobe: Photoshop + Fireworks: Where to from here?: I think that by far fireworks is a superior web design application due to its vector based design layout and ease for updating/tweaking of items and it allows for rapid prototyping and editing. However I get really frustrated as the image toolset in fireworks as good as it is lacks in certain areas so I have to take designs over to photoshop to improve the final design and add in extra design elements that just arent possible in fireworks.
