The strategy is to marginalize anything but Adobe products, the theory being that the unwashed masses will assume something's wrong with their reader software when they can't open the latest v7.0 file that uses 3D VRML menus or gives off odors while viewing or whatever the latest useless crapware feature of the day might be.

This is really good stuff for some people, for it is an ActiveX control that you could utilize to automate certain PDF-related actions, instead of relying on the AcroRd32.exe process commandline options or DDE messaging (or worse - Win32 programming).
