Graphic Design Blog > GIMP UI Future - Past And Present ~ Linux Fanatics
[Linux Fanatics] Despite me being quite friendly with the GIMP UI myself, Photoshop users such as my wife tend to find it annoying to use. Personally, I just blame this on her being a Mac user.

[Wired: Compiler] List of the Week: Tips for Tweaking GIMP to Replace Photoshop: But if you’ve ever spent serious time using Photoshop on a high-end Mac or Windows PC, you’ll quickly realize there’s a whole lot Adobe’s expensive, flagship editor can do that GIMP cannot.
[i drank the kool-aid] one good rant deserves another: My computer I purchased meets all the specifications plus some but performance is still not nearly as good as it should be, so I cant imagine a two or three year old pc running it. The few visual effects of Vista are not really worth the resources it consumes so I disabled them from the very beginning hoping to get a little more speed out of a brand new computer with the following specs: Core 2 Duo 2.13, 2 gigs of Ram, 500 gig hard drive, and a Geforce video card with 512 ram, with specs like these windows XP would fly but not Vista it just coast along slowly.
[Mac OS X Flaws.] Mac OS X Is Not So User-Friendly!: Anyway, it always amazes me how when someone complains about the Mac the fanboys all take it personally, as if you'd insulted a family member (I wonder if you'd get as much of a rise out of them if you insulted their mothers?). But anyway, I am a "switcher" of 18 months, and ever time I need to use a Windows box I find myself just a bit nostalgic for being able to get things done without wondering what the hell the Apple designers were thinking when they came up with the Mac interface.
[Ubuntu Linux News] Ubuntu 8.04.2 LTS released: Windows-on-Ubuntu took more than twice the time in creating the objects compared to the control while Ubuntu-on-Windows was actually faster than Windows-on-Windows. verall the results show that there are no major differences between the guest and the host Windows-on-Ubuntu notwithstanding.
[Robert's talk] Phasing out Microsoft products - Robert's talk: But in the end, what I think is pushing me over the brink is all Microsoft-fanatic web developers who love .NET (and granted, as a System Developer, it has its benefits, although the compiling seems unnecessary and a bit inflexible for a web development language), but who are unwilling to see the shortcomings of its other parts.
[Latest Videos Sifted at VideoSift.com] Change a person into the opposite sex using Gimp | Photoshop ...: You just researched it half arsed and tried to find a quote real quick that supported your gross association to Nazism and pseudoscience. I hope this gets popular just so more people can see how horribly ridiculous your arguments are in calling proportional symmetry a concept similar nazi aerian superiority.
[TuxRadar -] Free Software on Windows and Mac | TuxRadar: On the contrary, given that MS Windows has a marketshare of about 90% world-wide and that its GUI and those of both commercial and FOSS software are still (after 8 years of development) better and less buggy than those of Linux (like KDE, Gnome and plain X), it is unrealistic to expect end-users (which make out more than 90% of all users) or (more importantly) businesses to switch to a platform they know nothing about (like Linux). Especially since MS Windows comes pre-installed on just about 99% of all PCs.
[SEOmoz Daily SEO Blog] SEOmoz | 8 Innovative Design & UI Elements That Make Sites Better: "In addition to finding and indexing the textual content in Flash files, we're also discovering URLs that appear in Flash files, and feeding them into our crawling pipeline—just like we do with URLs that appear in non-Flash webpages. For example, if your Flash application contains links to pages inside your website, Google may now be better able to discover and crawl more of your website."

[Anywired] Full-throttle Productivity and Web-Work With Ubuntu - Anywired: @anima: Photoshop-v-GIMP is a habit thing, I think. I suspect there’s a reason there’s no Dreamweaver-like package - last time I looked (18 months or so ago), it made it pretty hard to produce good standards-compliant cross-platform web sites, so it would probably die a death among generally-Mozilla-based Ubuntu users who often tweak their browsers to fool stupid banks and so on.
