Pejmanesque: AND NOW TO CLEANSE THE PALATE AFTER DEALING WITH DEMAGOGUERY This is amazingly cool. (via Cosmos)
Infectious Greed: John Hanke, founder of Keyhole (now part of Google), just did something in his Where 2.0 presentation that I think was a software first: He apologized for having created a binary-installed app (Google Earth) as opposed to a web app. How the world has changed that doing a binary app now requires an apology. The Daily ACK: Well it now appears that with the launch of Google Earth they're well on the way to integrating other technologies they acquired when they bought Keyhole last year into their main stream product, and in the process beating Microsoft to market yet again. (via Cosmos)
[Bill Totten's Weblog] Clusterfuck Nation: I was all over the Bay Area earlier in the week, from San Francisco to Silicon Valley to Berkeley and even down to Santa Cruz, and that was bad enough, But then I got down to Los Angeles on Friday and have been in a state of pathological reflex nausea ever since. Despite their lame attempts to rebuild a few pieces of the 2000-mile-long streetcar system that they gleefully destroyed in the 1950s, life here is all about cars and it will never not be about cars - until the reality of our oil predicament falls on the hapless public like a hammer of God and the people of California die for their fucking cars in their fucking cars and over their fucking cars.

[Google.weblogsinc.com] Google Earth Launched Publicly - The Unofficial Google Weblog ...: As noted in my review, Earth is a significant cosmetic upgrade to Keyhole, and also incorporates more complete global stellite imagery. The best news is that Earth is free, as hoped, whereas Keyhole required an annual subscription.

[Heywait.blogspot.com] News and Flash blog by David Lawrence: 01/01/2004 - 01/31/2004: NASA's Opportunity rover zipped its first pictures of Mars to Earth early Sunday, delighting and puzzling scientists just hours after the spacecraft bounced to a landing on the opposite side of the red planet from its twin rover, Spirit. The pictures showed a surface smooth and dark red in some places, and strewn with fragmented slabs of light bedrock in others.
