Graphic Design Blog > John Nack on Adobe: Happy 10th birthday to InDesign
[John Nack on Adobe] And many, many, MANY thanks to everybody at Adobe who have worked so hard for so long on creating these software jewels -- for the positive impact of PS+ID on my life just cannot be overstated. I may, like everybody, gripe about some details, but fundamentally I love and admire just about everything Adobe creates.

[InDesignSecrets] InDesignSecrets » Blog Archive » When is InDesign CS5 Coming Out ...: @Klaus : i don’t know how much gripe there is about the us price of upgrades, and making 600$ in 2 years should be the least we can hope for a job, but most of the things i heard come from Europe, where it costs almost twice the price for various reasons, and on small businesses, 1200$ (600$ a year) on software look extremely costly, especially if it’s more than the value of your hardware
[John Nack on Adobe] John Nack on Adobe: "Dear InDesign, Illustrator...": features that improve workflow and/or strike me as more logical and intuitive--where sometimes Illustrator's equivalent borders on extreme non-usability), I'd like to ask this simple question: how many latent Freehand users are you likely to find with similar sentiments, and why can't Adobe conduct a comprehensive survey of users who can demonstrate--literally, in person--the ways in which Illustrator might shine on par with the now-dead Freehand (sniff)? Living in Seattle I'd be happy to swing by their offices and do just that.
[InDesignSecrets] InDesignSecrets » Blog Archive » Easier Button Creation in ...: What I can’t figure out is when I create an external URL link as a button my Indesign created SWF insists on opening a new page instead of targeting the current browser window. So I’m thinking there is a secret sauce code I could add to the front of my button URL in Indesign that would tell Indesign that this URL link should be directed to “self”
[GoMediaZine] Blank Canvas: Adobe Or Not? - Graphic design tutorials, freebies ...: I think a big part of what makes Adobe products work so well is that they realised that usually you'd be coming out of one program, and into another, and then maybe back again (think Premiere for editing, then After Effects, then back to Premiere then to Encore) and they've made this workflow really easy - which equates to faster and quicker work, which is almost always a good thing!
[blurbomat.com] blurbomat.com » If You Use Adobe CS4, You Need to See This: Using Flash to generate UI elements, when Adobe’s Flash client runs like ass on OSX (massive CPU hog for all but the highest end machines), is a recipe for disaster.
[John Nack on Adobe] John Nack on Adobe: Sympathy for the Devil: In contrast to that -- and for the sake of fairness I'll use an Adobe application as the example -- I can be painting feverishly in Photoshop on a 10000 x 9000 pixel image and the combined memory and CPU usage of both the Wacom driver and Photoshop would be less than Flash displaying some annoying ad, silly website animation, or even video. You cannot tell me that the Flash plugin is a more complicated application than Photoshop (as very few programs are), especially with Photoshop's having to register pressure sensitivity of nanosecond pen strokes in real time?
[Michael Milton's Blog] When to use Excel, when to use R?: This is probably not the primary usage that the authors of VisiCalc had in mind, but it’s a big need that people have, and the accretion of new formatting features in Excel 2007 and 2010 shows that the good folks at Microsoft recognize that their job is to give people what they want. Excel is a fast and straightforward tool for the presentation of tabular information.

[John Nack on Adobe] John Nack on Adobe: How could we improve Photoshop for iPhone ...: My point here is that the best thing Adobe can do to improve Photoshop (or any Adobe application for that matter and for any specific task) is to make it more stable and release patches for it when issues come up. The program's going to have bugs because humans program it, but there has to be more than one or two patches for these programs.
