[The Rapid eLearning Blog] Just so happens my step-daughter and myself used YourFonts.com to create our own hand-written fonts. My step-daugther is learning how to type and to get her more motivated and make it fun, I thought it would be neat if she had her own hand-writing appear on the screen as she’s learning to type.

[Neatorama] Is Cursive Handwriting Necessary? - Neatorama: Even though we can now sign documents electronically,the need to sign a legal document in cursive will likely never go away.Cursive is also nice for letters and notes,to others,of a personal nature,if you know the recipient can read your handwriting.In school,we were taught that cursive flows easier and quicker;but alas,I look at my notepad and I see that I always print my notes.As for historical documents,have you ever tried to read documentation from prior to the 19th century?Just as spelling,grammar,and syntax has changed over the previous centuries of written language,so they will change over the next 150-200 years,making the written (and typed) word difficult to read and understand.
[Selective & Arbitrary] lauredhel | Font hate: My handwriting (when I use it) tends to vary between semi-neat block capitals (for anything other people have to be able to read) and a combination of about three different font styles (the printing I learned in years 1 - 3, the "running writing" learned in years 4 - 6, the Palm script I learned to scribble for the Palm Pilot, and at least two calligraphic fonts which sneak occasional letters in here and there as required) which I use in my writing notebooks, university lecture notes (where it's mixed in with a personal shorthand as well, making it even less legible to outsiders) and anywhere else where I'm writing primarily for myself.

Students I wonder may argue otherwise;
[Larvatus Prodeo] Not-so-evil internets: making kids better writers at Larvatus Prodeo: I am not sure, but the teaching of handwriting (most subjects, in fact) seems to have improved substantially since I was in school. I helped with reading in my elder son’s kindy class a few years ago and was impressed with how quickly the kids were able to produce writing that was not only legible, but attractive.

[Family History UK Community Forums - Family Trees] Family History UK Community Forums FHUK - Cert. that is hand written: In regard to your certificate which you are having trouble reading, I spent some time learning Calligraphy, which has helped reading various documents especially the old ones. One suggestion is to use your local library and see if they have any books on Calligraphy which you could look at.
[MetaFilter] Futura vs. Verdana it ain't | MetaFilter: Between never having really grasped the Palmer method (my fifth grade papers still show a mix of both block and cursive in spite of the fact I was supposed to be writing in cursive and ink exclusively at that point for at least two years) and the fact I was trained to letter in both drafting and architectural styles has rendered my day to day scribble into a gelatinous mess that spills across all lines and into margins like a movie monster from the fifties.

[MetaFilter] Makes writing letters a breeze. | MetaFilter: I work in the kind of office where we get regular letters and faxes hand-written in what I call "Disturbed Sans Serif", that really recognisable handwriting of the usually elderly, often semi-literate and generally angry-at-the-world correspondent. Sometimes it's block capitals, more often it's careful primary school pre-cursive, very rarely it's copperplate.
